Benefits of participation
at the CIPMM 2011 National Workshop

The Canadian Institute of Procurement and Materiel Management (CIPMM) (formerly the Materiel Management Institute) has been providing Workshop participants with educational opportunities, information exchange platforms and incomparable chances to network with colleagues, industry leaders and corporate suppliers for more than 20 years.

With the current state of the economy, and the subsequent tightening of budgets for training and Workshop participation, prospective delegates need to be able to present to their employers the rationale on why they need to participate and outline what they will miss out on if they are not there.

The days of “I want to attend” are gone. The justification of “I need to attend” is the reality and the benefits are listed below.

Your Goals How CIPMM 2011 Supports Your Goals

I need to stay current
on industry topics

The Workshop Committee strives to ensure that all of the presentations are current, timely and applicable to the community. Notable presentations include:

  • Successful Relationships with Small and Medium Size Enterprises
  • Life-cycle materiel management optimization
  • Supply Chain Management
  • What PMBoK has to offer

I need professional
development training

Attend sessions on:

  • Public Methods of Supply for Services
  • Strategic Materiel Management
  • Risk Management in Public Contracting
  • TBIPS, SBIPS, THO, PS Online
  • Fundamentals and Advanced Issues in Public Purchasing, the Legal Perspective

I need to learn more about
materiel management

Attend sessions on:

  • Life-Cycle Materiel Management Optimization
  • CAD and SPMD
  • Role of Supporting Organizations
  • Best Practices: Materiel Management

I need to learn more about purchasing

Attend sessions on:

  • GoC Buying and Selling Website
  • CRA Synergy Tool
  • Tips on Contract and Rate Negotiations
  • New Generation of National printing procurement tools

I need to learn more about government operations

Attend sessions on:

  • Modernization of PWGSC's service delivery with partners
  • TBS Certification
  • How the Procurement Ombudsman handles complaints and Alternate Disptue Resolution
  • Complex Procurement Planning

Added incentives:

Attending this Workshop presents the opportunity to network with seasoned procurement practitioners who are on the verge of retirement, experts, regional counterparts, departmental colleagues and industry suppliers

The opportunities for succession planning within the procurement community are decreasing. There is little time left to ensure that the knowledge transfer occurs and that the new professionals are not left to reinvent the wheel. The Workshop is the one venue where the last of the seasoned practitioners assemble in substantial numbers. Networking with these individuals is invaluable.

We expect the 2011 Workshopto represent:

  • over 500 participants
  • 60 government departments, agencies and corporations
  • 10 private companies
  • 11 provinces (including Nunavut)
  • 30 public and private sector presenters
